Iced Americano

I can’t express how uncomfortably hot it gets at times. It has been a few years since we have been escaping the heat during the month of August, but this time, we are noticing the wrath. The temperatures do not look that bad as it would usually be during this time, but the way the feel would be – to say the least, suffocating. Some nights have been very humid, that driving becomes extremely tricky. I have finally completed two weeks of my leave, and I do feel relaxed, despite the heat. I would have loved going home and enjoying the weather, but somehow I feel I was spared from that lousy feeling that accompanies you for days once back. At least, it wasn’t difficult getting back to work.

Somehow I ticked off a lot of things off my list during the past two weeks. I slept long hours, went for long drives, ate at restaurants that I haven’t tried, gifted myself an expensive watch though an impulse purchase – hehe!, watched sunset at the beach, met up a few blogger friends over breakfast… I couldn’t have asked for more. I guess life has just become about counting blessing by blessing, moment by moment, and being thankful for it, especially with the way things are going on. After all, didn’t Allah tell us, “If you are grateful, I would certainly give you more…” (Surah Ibrahim: part of verse 7).

I was never a coffee person from the beginning, however when I went on my weight loss journey and I wasn’t able to drink anything in milk, I discovered Americano. Now the hot Americano is OK to have if you take a dessert with it, like a chocolate cake or a Pappa Roti bun. Hehe… I always pair my desserts with sugarless Americano, so that it cuts through the sweetness and makes it more palatable for me. I am not sure if one reason for doing it is to reduce the guilt factor as well. 😉 However, if I am drinking something alone, then it would always be Iced Americano. I used to wonder how good it would be, but I totally love it and it is the best almost zero calorie drink that I ever drink. And guess who I got hooked onto it? Azza! Anytime we are at a cafe, all she needs is this and I can’t but frown at her when she does that.

This is my attempt at trying to recreate it at home with coffee made in my French press. My morning coffee is always a cup of lukewarm coffee off the press. I am still trying to figure out which roast coffee I like, so I am no one to comment on that aspect. However, the girl was impressed, though she said the one in the cafe is better. Hmm… I have tough nuts to crack! Hehe… With the summers peaking, if you are not in a mood for Cold Coffee, then Iced Americano it is! If you don’t want that hint of warmth in the drink, then you could try the Cold Brew, which has a different flavor quotient altogether. Off to this recipe…

This is the routine coffee that me and my husband drink in the morning except hot and no sugar. Love a good strong brew in the morning to start the day. I would love the iced ones 🙂

Papa Roti, now you’ve got me craving for it!. As for Iced Americano, I prefer this cool drink anyway to the hot one. I usually enjoy iced Americano without sugar but somehow hot Americano I cannot. We are getting into the hot season here and this cool thirst quenching drink will be back on our daily routine. You should try Dorman’s Coffee if you get it there. We love it.
