Afghani Chicken Pulao

I have just started walking from the beginning of this week. Somehow, found my lost willpower – I guess it was in hiding between my daughters. They have been making fun of me so much that I decided to myself – that’s it!!! I’ve to do something… Coming to the fact of making fun, I was wondering – if ever I would have said something about her weight to my umma, I don’t know what I would have got from her! I wouldn’t have dare spoken to her! But today’s kids are very different. Maybe because we treat them differently. We want them to be our friends, rather than our kids, so they may be getting a feeling that anything they say would go well with us. I guess that’s why my elder one keeps taunting on my weight, even though she’s also not on the right side of the weighing machine for her age!!!

I love Instagram… 🙂

My umma was telling her, “You should not make fun of your ummi, then you also will become like that!” OK now, did umma mean that I literally look like an elephant??? There you go, two sharp arrows on to my heart. On top of that, my little blabber mouth learned those exact words from her thatha and was chattering it whenever she was following me. So now, thanks to these three ladies, I have started walking for 45 minutes, nice and brisk, every night after coming back from office. My little one yesterday asked me, “Ummi opichilekku odaan pova??” (Is ummi going to office to run?). Yeah, she meant the walkway… 🙂

There is a beautiful corniche now next to my place, just opened to the public a couple of weeks ago. A lot of people are taking advantage of the breeze, the creek and the government buildings on the other side with a lot of boats and dhows lining the creek-side  and taking their walks. My legs are paining but then I feel relaxed. The first day I went for the walk, I updated my status on FaceBook (ahem!!!). My HD got irritated and asked me, “Why do you want the whole world to know?” I did that so that I know I have informed the world and I will stick to my walks to avoid any embarrassment. Hehe…

I guess I should stop blabbering and just go straight to this beautiful pulao, that will really trigger your tastebuds. I was surprised how such simple ingredients could cause such beautiful flavor… Recipe from here

  5. Hi Rafeeda, your chicken pulao look wonderful. I don't mind to have second helping. 😉

It's good to walk at least 3 to 4 times a week to stay healthy and keep fit. Guess your children must be joking with you, just having fun. You can try to eat 2 bananas plus a glass of warm water in the morning before breakfast. Take your breakfast half an hour later, if not hungry just have tea or coffee. This can help to reduce weight. But be patience cos you won't see instant result. Or you can eat oats for breakfast everyday. Best not to eat anything 4 hours before you sleep.

    Have a nice week ahead,regards.

    1. thank u so much amelia… actually, i have stopped having dinner now for the past couple of months. But I eat through the day… the banana idea sounds nice, i wouldn't really mind eating bananas becoz i love them… 🙂 appreciate your inputs! 🙂

    2. Amelia darling, please be my neighbour so that you can coach me in this!!! I want to lose weight too but can't help myself from eating! Looool 😉

Rafeeda, you definitely triggered my tastebud at this hour! Superb looking pulao dear…sure it tasted so yummy!!! 😉

    3. i feel u r fine, sri… y do want to stop eating? i feel so bad that i can never eat wholeheartedly, without ending up feeling guilty… 🙁 thank u for your kind comments, dear… 🙂

    4. Hi Rafeeda, Try not to skip dinner or any meal even thou on diet. Once your hormone is unbalance, no matter what you do and how you exercise you can never shed a single pound.

For dinner you can take fruits salad, soup, porridge or soya bean pudding. Best to eat before 8pm cos our organ stop functioning at 8pm. The liver will do the filtering and distribution job from 10pm to 4am. So it's best to sleep between this hour.

And you can do a detox 2 to 3 times a week with 1/2 lemon + 3 tomatoes blend into juice add 1 tsp honey drink immediately in the morning before breakfast.(NOT SUITABLE FOR GASTRIC PEOPLE) Then take your breakfast half hour later.

For your info I'm in my 50th miles stone, I do weight lifting everyday and squatting exercise, start with 20 times and increase gradually. I'm doing 100 times and same time carry a 3kg weight. You can check the info in my old posting under exercise. Enjoy…. be patience, you'll be able to shed some pounds.

      Have a nice day.

    5. Hi Love, I don't mind to be your neighbor but I think instead of coaching you to exercise we might end up eating and partying in the kitchen. LOL

I love to eat too but I'm very hardworking at the same time do my exercise at least 3 times a week. So you must follow my style enjoy food and enjoy exercise. 🙂

      Have a nice day.

    6. thank u so much amelia… that's so sweet of you… i'm already keeping these in mind… 🙂 i'm quite a lazy person, but i know if i don't work out, i'm not going to shed anything!!! appreciate…

    7. Hi Rafeeda, I forgotten something about curry leaves which can help reduce weight too. You can try this if you get tired of banana or oats. Take 22 curry leaves, bruise slightly. Leave to soak overnight in a glass of boiled, cooled water. Drain and drink in the morning 1/2 an hour before breakfast.
I did a posting on this in my blog June 2011.

    8. thank u so much amelia… this is noted!!!

  14. A nice and honest post, enjoyed reading it. Yes kids can be naughty these days and we either have to stop them or wait for them to grow older and understand their actions in a mature manner. Whats else can we do? 🙂 SO where in Dubai are you? It brings back old memories for me as I did my schooling in Dubai.
