Small sweet bites of puff pastry with creamy pistachio filling, similar to Baklava…
There are a few sweets that we always enjoy, isn’t it? One of them has to be Baklava. I absolutely love them, but the problem here is not on the availability, but on the availability of good ones. There are times when I have bought absolutely horrendous ones that I wouldn’t want to have this sweet for months at end. Baklava has to be made with pure ghee or butter to taste amazing, but sometimes the ones you get have the taste of spoiled oil, and then the nuts sometimes get rancid, so I better not tell you how that combination would taste like.
Even though making Baklava is on my to-do since long, I haven’t got to doing it, because the package of phyllo is too much and making so much in one go, is not very weight friendly. 😉 But when I saw this recipe making rounds as a trending recipe during last Ramadan, I had to make it. Speaking of which, Ramadan is just another a little over three and half months away, SubhanAllah… Time is just not flying, it is more than that…
This is the next recipe in line for the “Fruit n Nut” theme for this year’s Bakeathon. I always have puff pastry stocked in my fridge during Ramadan usually to make something savory like these tarts or an always favorite Mutta Puffs, and then of course my favorite Umm Ali. I now have another recipe in my kit to make especially if I will need to make some for guests or simply for distribution.
The beauty of this sweet is that it is really easy to make. You don’t need the puff pastry squares to thaw completely, it just needs to be enough to be able to fold. The filling which is ground pistachio with condensed milk is so tempting that you will need to avoid yourself from licking it from the spoon. Hehe… The nuts need not be toasted. Once it gets baked in very little time, you drizzle either honey or sugar syrup that maybe lying in your fridge. Do you know that now you get to buy sugar syrup for desserts from the supermarket? Once after the drizzle, dig in right away… Ah, so blissful, crisp, nutty and just the right sweetness. Since the filling has little sweetness, drizzle according to your liking. Do try it, I am sure that all of you will love it…
