Complete Breakfast Smoothie

I am an avid watcher of “Food Network”. We don’t get it in our cable all the time, but on special occasions, this channel comes up and I watch it continuously for hours. In fact, that’s the only channel the girls don’t ask me to change to see their cartoons. 😉 When the channel goes off, I watch the live telecast through their website, but then time is always a constraint so I don’t do it more often.

During one of the episodes of a programme called “The Kitchen”, I happened to watch this recipe of this super smoothie. The host Jeff Mauro whipped up this smoothie and called it the “Complete Breakfast Smoothie”. It stuck in my head, thanks to the banana and coffee concoction. I didn’t recreate it in my kitchen till I started my workouts a couple of months ago. This smoothie was perfect for an early Saturday training session, since it is light yet so loaded that it gives you the energy to put up through the whole one hour. I would drink this and go, and come back and have my actual breakfast, close to brunch time. I would ensure to keep a banana frozen and ready and my coffee brewed so that I just have to do the blitzing and drinking in the morning.

Coffee and coconut oil is well known for its fat burning properties and the banana is a powerhouse in its own. The peanut butter, honey and the flax/ chia all adds so much value to this smoothie that you will find yourself making it every single week at least once, like I do! 🙂 Off to the recipe…

  • 1 large banana cut into chunks and frozen
  • 1/2 cup strong coffee cooled
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp chia seeds/ flaxmeal optional

Notes

As the smoothie sits, it tends to thicken. So you can keep it for sometime and have to have a thicker smoothie.
