This week marked the closure of this school term, or rather the school year. The girls have completed their final exams and are now relaxing. It’s almost a whole month of holiday, that umma wished I would send the girls to be with them. Unfortunately, airlines that fly towards our side of the world think that we are minting money and can afford to pay over-the-roof flight ticket charges. 😕 I think I better not get to that point, since it boils my nerves… hehe… Also, the temperatures are slowly soaring. We have hardly had any winter this time. Before we could even get a feel, it came and went. Right now, the mornings are cozy, the nights are breezy and comfortable but the sun is nice and hot. The temperatures may still show in its 20s but standing out for too long does get a tad uncomfortable in the afternoons, and now slowly pushing itself out into the 30s. The season of having chai and pakodas are slowly moving way to more smoothies and cold drinks. I still can’t accept that we are having a warmer than usual March, and may have hotter months coming ahead… 🙁
So to make myself feel fine, let me share this refreshing mocha with you. You all know by now how much chocolate is “bae” to me, so I add it everywhere I get a chance to. Whenever we used to go for our coffees together, I would always order mocha and HD would get irritated, “Isn’t there anything you don’t have without chocolate?” 😀 I miss those coffee mornings and everything just seems to have shrunk to levels I wouldn’t even want to think about… Anyway, coming back to the mocha – you can use your own choice of milk, your own choice of coffee – instant or freshly brewed which tastes so much better, of course, and your own choice of chocolate – whether cocoa powder or syrup, or even better melted chocolate. I usually make a cooked paste of my cocoa powder and milk and then blitz it for a nice taste. Add in some really cold water or some ice cubes, pour into a tall glass, put in a straw – that’s a bonus!, stay on your couch and sip it, just looking nowhere… 😉 Off to the recipe…
Cold Mocha
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup milk any of choice
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp instant coffee
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cold water or ice cubes
Instructions
- Take 1/4 cup milk, whisk the cocoa powder and coffee in it. Keep on low flame till it becomes a homogeneous mixture, no need to boil. Set aside to cool.
- Add the concoction along with all other ingredients and blitz till smooth.
- Pour into a tall glass and enjoy.
Notes
I don't like my drink with any toppings, but you could top with whipped cream and a nice douse of chocolate syrup or caramel syrup.

Summer is already upon us here in Pune and I am so looking forward to cool drinks to beat the heat. Your glass of mocha is calling out to me to be picked. Being an ardent chocolate fan, I keep finding ways of adding it to things.
Hehe I get that… I am like that too… Thank you so much Jyoti…
The mocha looks seriously addictive. Here’s one thing we don’t have in common – love for chocolates. Perhaps the reason why my blog doesn’t have too many bakes or chocolate based recipes. I love eating a bite or two but not very fond of excessive cream / toffee / glaze etc on cakes etc too. So, I guess I am a bit different. My friends also find it very weird. But I would seriously love this combination of one of my fav ingredient – Coffee with chocolate. Your part of the world and mine both have undergone serious changes in weather last few weeks and a tall glass of this is seriously the need of the hour. Loved the close up shot of the tall glass, makes me just wanna dive right into it. PS – Hope the girls enjoy their vacations here, and soon meet their grandparents. Ameen!
I love chocolate and it was one of my saddest part now that I am on a watch on my eating… There’s nothing weird in it that you don’t like… there are many I know who doesn’t enjoy chocolates… hehe… the kids continue to be here, anyway they will travel in July when they have longer holidays… thank you so much Vidya…
yummie, a cold mocha under the heat will just be a perfect one
