” I do not acquit myself. Indeed, the (human) soul enjoins unto evil, except those upon which my Lord has mercy. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.” (Surah Yusuf: 53)
Beautiful verse, isn’t it? A verse filled with remorse, with an understanding that the human being is inclined towards sin. If you go through Surah Yusuf, which is in fact one of the most fascinating history mentioned in the Quran, this was the statement made by the wife of Prophet Yusuf’s master, when she admitted of her sin of trying to seduce him. There are a lot of lessons from that incident that we can learn, including the statement that Prophet Yusuf made (Verse 23 in the same chapter) while trying to escape her advances. As much as we be ashamed of our sins, big or small, it becomes imperative to be positive about the Mercy of our Lord. He repeats so many times in the Qur’an, that He is ready to forgive our sins, big or small – apart from a few including Shirk (joining others with Him in worship) – and the only thing He asks us to do is sincerely repent and try to add more good to our daily life. As much as we feel tempted to fall into the bad, let us keep reminding ourselves that staying away the maximum we can… It applies a lot to me as well… 🙂
Coming to the second in the 3 back-to-back drinks, the first one which was the Qamardeen… This is an absolute favorite for Suhoor for me. Fig and dates are two fruits from the heaven, mentioned in the Qur’an in many places. Both the fruits are power houses in itself. The level of nutrients these dainty looking fruits possess is unparalleled, MaShaAllah. When I started my medication and vegan diet, the habit I clung onto is having three dates daily in the morning, half an hour after my first medicine was taken. The surprising part is that these three dates sustain me for at least two hours, till I settle in the office and get to having my actual breakfast! I also have figs as my snack once in two days, along with a few almonds. I never loved figs earlier, but now dried figs is a fixture in my grocery list. 🙂 Combining these two loves in to this thick and filling smoothie is the best thing that you could do to yourself! If you make this for Suhoor, remember to soak the dates and figs just before you go to sleep, so you get a “smooth” smoothie in the morning. What more, since both these fruits are naturally sweet, there is no need for sugar at all! Off to the recipe…

Reading Quran with its meaning and studying it as much as I is what is keeping me busy these days. I must admit I have never had a better Ramadan than this year. Alhamdulillah! I was feeling I will miss home and all the fun associated to this month. The only thing I do miss is the Taraweeh prayer with family. Your intros just add to my lessons! Thank you so much for sharing – not everyone can teach. Coming to the recipe – LOVE both fig and dates. Recently I picked dried figs from here and they are so different from what I have seen all these years. we both didnt like to eat it as is. It was a semi dried state- that too the whole fruit with the stalk. So, I soaked and made smoothie after removing the stalk. It was so rich! I shall try adding dates next time. But we have for ifthar as suhoor is tea time for us. Can’t miss that not can mix it with this! 😛
Alhamdulillah, Fami… I always wish I could dedicate a little more time to the Quran but sometimes, nothing seems to work… 🙁 My post is to assure myself to try and do more than what I am doing now, InShaAllah… nothing makes me feel better than if somebody benefits from whatever I write… 🙂 I love dried figs, it gives such a super thick smoothie! Even eating it just like that is filling. Thanks a lot dear… <3
