Oh, how could I forget??? I am feeling so bad not having shared this with all of you… a couple of Thursdays back, as I got out of my office, my headphones plugged into my ears, I get a call with a number, reading “Singapore” at the bottom. Before I continue, if there is one rule that I hate to follow, it is not talking directly on the mobile phone. I hate the headset or the blue-tooth. I just don’t know why, I know it’s much safer for me to use but still… Come Ramadan and I am automatically using the headset because during the afternoons, you get to see such bizarre drivers, that you would doubt whether they ever learned driving before coming on to the roads!!! So I am forced to use it for concentration sake… OK, so continuing, I was at the signal, so I stare at…
Thari Kanji – Semolina Milk Drink
Just last Iftar, we had a realization. This Ramadan is supposed to be my parent’s last official Ramadan in UAE. My D is preparing for retirement by the end of this year and Allah alone knows the plans after that, but he is not keen on continuing his stay over here. After all, after having spent more than 60% of his life in this foreign land, he is craving to go back and stay in India, in our own house, in our own land for his retirement. That kind of put me into an off-mood. I’ve been, along with my B, fortunate to have them here all the time, unlike my sister who is settled in India and misses their presence. When we used to stay separate before the kids, we use to come and stay over during the weekends. Once the kids came along, we began living together….
Papaya Milkshake
Today’s the first day of Ramadan! 🙂 This is the month we so eagerly wait for… I am so grateful to all of you who have been leaving lovely comments for the information I am sharing regarding this blessed month. It feels nice to know that there are people who seek to understand other people’s religions and traditions. It is only out of this feeling of compassion and understanding can a lot of things look positive… 🙂  Since from dawn to dusk we abstain from eating and drinking, most of the people tend to give a lot of importance to food. Definitely, food is important – what you eat truly determines the energy levels of the fasting time. Therefore, it is extremely important to know what you are eating. In our home, my umma and I make it a point to keep fried items to the minimum. Only when…
My cup of coffee…
Just like sometime back, I had dwelled upon my favorite hot drink called tea, this time, let me hover around coffee, “the favorite drink of the civilized world”, as Thomas Jefferson correctly said so. Yes, it is? Why? You tend to get coffee in every nook and corner of the street. There is coffee in all the coffee shops that you go, every street side cafe you visit or you get it along with your donuts! Coffee is everywhere, unlike tea, which is a more homely drink to be made with your own hands… hehe… For me, coffee is reserved for my down moods. I drink tea when I am really pepped up, but I drink coffee when I feel low. I really don’t know why… The aroma, the taste really add the zing in me to get going. Even while going back from work to home, if I am…
Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie
I absolutely have no issues with making my kids to eat fruits. They would eat up anything that is cut and put into their plate – apples, bananas, grapes, orange, etc. I am very lucky, Alhamdulillah, in that case. At least I don’t have to camouflage or do anything to get these natural goodness into their stomachs. Definitely, with vegetables, it is more of a challenge, even though both of them adore cucumber like anything. They can have two each at the same time!!! I don’t know where they got their craziness from – their parents do not like it as such…  However, giving them smoothies or juices is a challenge. They would prefer eating their fruits raw rather than in the juice format. Whenever I make juices, it is always the elders who finish it off rather than the kids. And seriously, it makes me feel guilty that I have it on…
Spiced Nutella Mocha
I love the way my daughters act at times. This weekend, as soon as I was off from the shower, the elder one ran towards the washroom and the younger one towards me. Let me tell you what they did – the younger one was continuously touching the new salwar that I had worn and saying, “Hai, puthiyatha?” (Hai, is it new?). I was kind of surprised at her sharpness. I just smiled and told her, “Yes, darling!” She gave me a big grin and went her way. When I looked at the elder one, she was enjoying the smell of the soap, shampoo and what not I had used. She is waiting to grow up to use all those things that I use. Seriously, girls will always be girls… 🙂  Today is a very simple refreshing hot drink, for those cold evenings when you just want to stretch yourself on…
The perfect cuppa chai… ~ Milk Tea/ Chai Latte
I seriously believe that if you like having chai (tea) or coffee, you should have it the way you want it. I am very wary of the chai I drink. If it is not as per my taste, I normally don’t drink it. So is the case with coffee. If you ask me if I am a tea or a coffee person, well – it depends on my mood!!! Most of the time, I prefer drinking tea, as I feel that I prepare tea better. But when I am outside, I prefer coffee – filter coffee to be specific. Anybody reading this post – if you know where I can get the filter coffee gasket in Dubai, please let me know. I cannot wait to make my own filter kaappi at home, at my leisure!!! Â Today’s post is just a depiction of how I make my tea. Coming to…
