Raagi Puttu ~ Finger Millet Steamed Hot Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup finger millet raagi flour
  • A pinch of salt
  • Water as required
  • Grated coconut as required

Instructions

  • Roast the raagi flour on low flame for around five minutes or till a nice aroma comes.
  • Empty into a bowl add the salt and mix well.
  • Now add water slowly by slowly and rub into the flour till the whole batter is wet but not lumpy. Break all the lumps with your fingers.
  • Heat water in a pressure cooker.
  • In a puttu maker, put in some coconut and then top with the raagi flour. Pass steam through it till cooked.
  • Flip onto a plate and enjoy with some sugar and banana or with what goes best with puttu - kadala curry, cherupayar curry or any spicy chicken curry!

Notes

You can make this in the long puttu maker as usual. I have used the round one which goes on top of a steamer.
