This weekend was lovely. We had a biriyani potluck arranged by JorenQ and I was a part of it. I went there with my Emirati chicken biriyani (no recipe on the blog yet! InShaAllah, will cook this up pretty soon and add it to my drafts! 🙂 ) with a lot of trepidation. My main intention of going was to see a few faces that I have been interacting with and have been longing to meet. We had an amazing time. I dragged HD along and was worried if he would get annoyed at me taking more time, but thankfully he was really cooperative. 😀 The girls enjoyed themselves. I can’t talk anything about the food since I am on a strict diet and I carried my own lunch, so I had to turn my eyes away from everything. But the meetings, the talks, the laughter, all made up for the absence of it. I have always said that it is the relationships that blogging has given me that makes me keep this blog alive, and I still say the same, Alhamdulillah… 🙂 And oh yes, the biriyani received some lovely positive feedback, Alhamdulillah… 🙂
I know the season right now here is not feasible for anything cold, but then is there a season for enjoying cold stuff? I have seen people enjoy ice cream and cold treats even when it is freezing outside. Even I do that at times! Since luscious strawberries are in season, I thought why not post this delicious simple recipe that is a favorite to kids. It is a very straight forward recipe without any complications, but one thing I have included here is strawberry essence. I don’t know why I bought it but definitely one of my fancy buys it was! The essence gives it a flavor and smell exactly of store bought milkshakes. If you don’t have them, don’t even bother to use them. I always feel that we need to make food as per what is in our house. This way it reduces wastage and ensures maximum utilization of resources – something that I am learning now, since I have seen too much wastage and can’t take it any more, thanks to the blogging itch! 😕 So moving on to this recipe…
Strawberry Milk
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 15 strawberries cleaned and chopped
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp strawberry essence optional
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth. Serve immediately.
Notes
simple yet flavourful milk.. Rafee , I am one of those people who love to eat ice cream when it snows outside
Haha… I would love to do that, it never snows here! Thank you so much Veena…
Oh dear so you went there and just stared at the food? poor thing, I am still looking forward to the day to meet you and the rest of the muslimah bloggers someday soon insha allah. 🙂
InShaAllah, do plan a trip soon to Dubai! 🙂 Thank you so much Nammi…
Wow!! This looks inviting!! I once did strawberry cream and the taste was amazing.. This i will definitely try out as it will be healthier alternative to the cream!
Thank you so much Pankti…
Firstly, the milk looks amazing with a pinkish tinge. Such a girlie colour! Lolzz..I love strawberries and in fact hate milk but strawberry milkshake and mango milkshake are the only ones I have with milk included so I ensure the winters and summers are the time to make up my calcium deficit.. ha ha .. I agree blogging has opened us to a whole new world of relationships, some really ending being the best! So much to learn, share and laugh… that should be the entire purpose of life actually. Make the most of the fact that the Almighty has kept you alive so far! I hate the fact that you had to carry a dabba instead of eating the goodies, sometimes cheating is okay Rafee.. Hugs!!
Hehe… I have just started giving up on certain food so all of a sudden going on cheat mode is not a good thing to do, right? Thank you so much for your lovely comment…
Beautiful pics. I know it’s a straight forward recipe but a loved one😉😊
Thank you so much Avin… 🙂
Biriyani potluck is such an interesting get together. I wish we had it. Kudos to you for having controlled yourselves.
We love smoothies and icecreams but the kido keeps getting cold every now and then when we have it. But I wonder how, when it is freezing cold I see people sitting down and enjoying icecream. But I guess that could be fun too which I need to try. The smoothie looks absolutely refreshing. With the weather getting warmer here we might slurp on some smoothie soon
I think if you have an association, then that’s an idea you can pan out! But believe me, making a big pot is not that easy especially if you are not used to making it. Hehe… Thank you so much Anupa…
