Papaya Halwa ~ Indian Papaya Sweet

I have been on an awfully low spiritual phase and that seems to be reflecting on the blog as well. I have always felt that when your heart and soul struggles to manage the turns and curves of life, you tend to find solace in the comforting words of the Lord. As life settles and things become much more streamlined, man tends to go back to his selfish ways. We forget the bad days and enjoy the good days as if nothing ever happened in our life. As our Creator, He knows how man is and that very well is explained in these verses:

And when adversity touches man, he calls upon his Lord, turning to Him [alone]; then when He bestows on him a favor from Himself, he forgets Him whom he called upon before, and he attributes to Allah equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, “Enjoy your disbelief for a little; indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire.”‘ (Surah Az-Zumar:8)

There is something to think for all of us in this verse. That whatever may happen in our life, we have to always guard ourselves of complacence. We are not immortal. All of a sudden, the carpet under our leg will be pulled and we will be in a situation where there is no return. The thought of it is not very encouraging – how many of us are ready for that stage? May Allah protect us, keep us humble and make us among those who love Him and whom He loves… Aameen… Just sharing a beautiful post I read over the week…

My craziness for the fruit called papaya is definitely all over the blog. Type “papaya” in the search box and you will get the list of what all I have made with this delicious fruit. I know many who don’t seem to like it even, but I love it and that’s all that matters to me. 😉 Making papaya halwa has been on my mind for quite some time, knowing that it is a quite famous dessert up north. We south Indians seem to know only to eat our papaya with the skin removed and devoured with all goodness. 😉 I would vouch that if you love desi desserts and sweets, then you are definitely going to love this halwa. It looks so similar to gajar halwa with its bright orange color and tastes like it too. It did take some time for the folks at home to realise it was papaya in it. 😀 If you are able to find yourself a nicely ripe papaya, then do try this dessert, it is seriously amazing! 🙂 Off to the recipe…
