Fruity Iced Tea

With the summers blazing now in this part of the world, there is nothing more refreshing that cold drinks. The mood is not for smoothies but for water like drinks, that will refresh and rejuvenate. Those who are in the Gulf know how the summers are here. I feel this time it has been extremely hot and uncomfortable, all throughout the day. The day begins with 37-39 degrees, peaking close to 48-50 in the afternoon, and back to around 42 degrees in the evening. It is better not to talk about the humidity. It is so energy sapping that any time you spent outside, you need to replenish your body constantly with water and electrolyte drinks so that you don’t feel giddy or faint.

Every two months, I do the three back-to-back series, so this month, it is a no-brainer – simple drinks that will refresh you after a hot day out! I start off with something that I got hooked to very lately – iced tea. I love my hot milk tea and I am still not ready to trade it in for anything else even now. But those months when I had turned vegan, it was tough to have tea and it was summers too. My first trial was  Starbuck’s Lemonade Iced Tea, which I didn’t like initially but as I continued sipping from the cup, I started enjoying my drink.

The making of the tea is just like any black tea you would make. The only thing is that you have to give time for the tea to chill. This is very important. I like to make the tea and leave the pitcher in my fridge till the time I am ready for the drink. Once it gets really cold, it gets a delicious taste of its own.

I like my iced tea with more of fruity flavors. Here, you can see I have used kiwi peices in one, which I should have crushed a little – hehe… – and in the other, I used a concoction of orange and lime juice. Both were really refreshing. You can go ahead and use any fruits you think would pair well with tea – apple, muddled mint, some spices, lemon juice, strawberries, mango puree, peach slices… the list is endless! All I am doing here is to share a basic recipe and you all go ahead and let you imagination play! 🙂

  4. I love iced tea and don’t get shocked – I am not a lemonade person. So whenever we eat out – I order peach iced tea and that is the only flavour I so far loved. So even at home I make only with peach. I wanted to try with berries but now is not the time.. 🙂 When using any stone fruits, you can add them to the boiling water itself – which way it will release more flavour. Somehow, this summer, I am not drawn to juices.. I just stick to cold water and for F – I prepare and keep a pitcher of VIMTO. LOL. May be because I am not stepping out too often and this year it is terrible even in the mid night… when we were out on friday it was 46C around 12 am! :-O

Although recently when I had , it was fruit flavored than the actual fruit but sometime back I do remember having passionfruit iced tea from there with the real fruit in it. It was just awesome nothing can beat that flavor:)

Iced Tea can be so refreshing during this scorching heat!! You have something cold and do not miss your tea either:)
