French Yogurt Cake ~ Gâteau au Yaourt

If I tell you this is the easiest cake I have baked, would you agree? I guess you have to try it to agree to me on this! 🙂

The French Yogurt Cake is the first basic cake that is taught in a French household. It is said that this cake is made by using a 125 ml can of yogurt and everything is measured in it, ie. 1 measure of yogurt, 3 measures of flour, 2 measures of sugar and 1 measure of oil, thereby making it easy to remember the proportions. Even though I got the idea of this cake from David Lebovitz’s book “The Sweet Life in Paris“, I referred to a lot of posts on Google, especially on this one and totally loved how homely this bake is.

Especially when you have guests coming in unannounced or if you want a no-nonsense simple tea cake, then I am kind of sure that this is it! 🙂 By the way, I highly recommend this book if you love French delicacies. I have already folded almost the whole book to try and I have no clue when I am going to try them all. The recipes are so simple and easy to follow, and the book has some interesting anecdotes and happenings before each recipe. Hopefully I will do a detailed review sometime later – please don’t ask me when. 😉
