We all know that October is the month of breast cancer awareness. All over the world, the month is dedicated to raise awareness about this deadly disease which affects a majority of women these days. Every woman needs to be aware of her general health and do the required self tests to ensure that they are free from it. We all are carried away, that includes myself and always think that these kind of diseases would not happen to us, but it is always best to be aware and do what it takes to prevent its advent. May Allah keep us protected from all such kinds of diseases.. Aameen… In the UAE, it is good to see that a lot of corporates and hospitals take this month quite seriously and spend a lot of time and effort to raise awareness in general, mainly encouraging men to push their mothers, sisters and wives to do the necessary steps. Many hospitals even do free mammograms for its detection and treatment.
Taking into account the importance of the month, “pink” was the theme that was selected for the Blogger’s Monthly Fiesta. Even though I was thinking of a drink, finally I settled for this Beetroot Raita. Beetroot needs no introduction. The only recipes I have on the blog is this stirfry, a chocolate cake with hidden beetroot puree and these red velvet muffins that were naturally colored by this vegetable. As children, we never ate much of this vegetable as umma was not very fond of it. After discovering that the kids love it as they eat it from their babysit aunt’s house, I started including it into our diet, especially considering that this vegetable is so full of goodness, especially for a woman’s health. I made this raita, with a bit of trepidation. Wanting to try something different, I set to making this but I was mighty pleased with the end result! There was no “soilish” taste of the beetroot and the yogurt gave it such a lovely pink hue to the raita. Totally a winner to go with a nice and spicy biriyani! I never knew that beetroot had such a cute name in Hindi/ Urdu – “chukandar”! Hehe… 😀 Before going off to the recipe, let us see what my partners made for this month…
