Sago Rose Milk

Sometimes I peek back and wonder, where did the month go? We are almost finishing the second ten days of Ramadan and moving towards the last ten days of the month, considered to be the best days of the year itself. Somehow days are flying in full speed, just like water slipping through the fingers. It makes me feel very uneasy, making me think if I am taking full advantage of these blessed days. May Allah accept our little deeds done by the best of our capacities… Aameen…

Meanwhile, I will leave you with this delicious drink, which I had make when I saw this post. I love anything with sago, though I don’t cook very frequently with it, since it can be very tricky. This drink is basically an adapted sago payasam, cooled and sweetened with rose syrup, but unlike payasam which is usually served warm, this is served cold. The drink does need a little bit of prepping but it is so refreshing during the Iftar time, I better not comment about it. 🙂 If you are looking for a different drink for your Iftar time and have a little extra time on hand, do plan ahead and make it. I bet you won’t be disappointed!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sago
  • 3 cups thin coconut milk
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup thick coconut milk
  • 3 tbsp rose syrup

Instructions

  • Wash and soak the sago for 15 minutes. Drain.
  • Add it to the thin coconut milk along with the salt and cook on low flame till the sago turns tranparent and gets cooked.
  • Add in the thick coconut milk and whisk well. Allow the mixture to heat up and switch off.
  • Bring it to room temperature. Add the rose syrup. At this stage check the sweetness and add sugar or more rose syrup as desired.
  • Serve as is or cold. I found that it tasted better when cold.

  1. I do agree that days are flying by faster than we think. I am just trying to do as much as possible and really saving my energy for the last 10 days of this holy month. I just live sago…be it sweet or savoury version. And I am sure it is a great combination with the coconut mill
