Adeni Chai ~ Yemeni Milk Tea

Pin

Tea is my favorite beverage, if made properly. An improper tea peeves me off. I guess it runs in the family. It’s with my parents, it’s with HD as well. We prefer having tea from street side restaurants rather than homes most of the time, since many just can’t make a proper cup of tea. 🙁 I feel really bad to say this, but it is from experience. There are very rare times when I have really liked the tea from somebody’s house. I feel people make coffee better, since it is more easier to do so I always ask for it. Hehe…

Like tea? Then here are some that are already on the blog – not the sulamani types! 😉

My way of making chai

Burma Chai – for people who love tea with just milk!

Kashmiri Chai

Teh Terik – Malaysian Milk Tea

Yuan Yang – Coffee Tea (try this! A very different beverage…)

Ginger/ Adrak Chai

Masala Chai

Adding one more to the long list above today… Adeni Chai is a sweet Yemeni style milk tea. When I heard about this tea, I scoured through a lot of recipes and one thing I found in common is that two spices are used in their tea without fail – cardamom and cloves. Cardamom is something we use a lot in our tea, but clove is usually meant only for Masala Chai or Turmeric Milk for me. So I was really curious to see how it would blend in with the tea. Even with the cinnamon and the cardamom, the clove flavor stands out in the tea. So if you are not a clove fan, I would advise to be wary of trying it. HD didn’t like the tea but since I am a spice person and even though clove is my least liked spice, I still loved the tea due to the mild hue of the cardamom. I use milk for the tea though most of the recipes ask for evaporated milk, but I am really not fond of it.

So if you are in a mood for a slightly different tasting tea, here it is for you. Do enjoy it nice and warm on a cold morning… 🙂 Off to the recipe…

  7. omg! I can totally understand. Tea is a very personal thing and it is not served the way we like, which is apparently in most of the homes we went. So unless I am sure they are also tea lovers like me, I settle for green tea. Milk tea has to be a certain color (strong) and not too sweet! 🙂 Anyways coming to your recipe, I love cloves! So much better than cinnamon. Adding cloves to Kesari gives it so much better flavour. And I have made adeni tea with condensed milk once and then settled for normal milk. Aden is a city in Yemen and this tea is mostly same across the Middle east. Because they use the evaporated or condensed milk, it is served in a very small portion.

Thank you for all that extra information dear… I have read this tea is quite on the sweeter side, but I kept it mild as per my preference. 🙂

Adeni Chai, also known as Yemeni Milk Tea, is a beloved traditional beverage that captivates with its rich flavors. This aromatic tea is brewed with black tea leaves, spices like cardamom and cloves, and sweetened with condensed milk or sugar. Served hot and often accompanied by sweet treats, Adeni Chai holds cultural significance in Yemen, fostering a sense of togetherness and warmth in every delightful sip.
