Vettu Cakes/ Cut Cakes

The weekend was very lonely. My parents and my elder one have gone to India to attend a relative’s marriage. It’s just me and the younger one most of the time. My B is locked himself up in the room, completing his assignments and my HD is as usual packed with his work. So both of us have been staring at each other’s face and blabbering sweet nothings!!! She kind of feels bored with me sometimes, so she goes into her deep thoughts. So much so for today’s kids!!!   While publishing the guest post of yesterday, I suddenly realized that it was post #49. Goosebumps!!! My little blog baby is growing at a pace that I had never imagined when I started. I am just 2 months and a week into this, taking things at my own pace and I am already on post #50!!! Wow!!! Not only that, in the…

Be My Guest – Muttamala (Egg Garlands)

After the first guest post by Meena, here is another guest post. I am sure Hasna of Kachus Delights needs no introduction. She has a blog with yummy recipes, especially a long list of cakes and palaharangal (sweet dishes). Her’s was one of the first blogs that I had got so excited about, mainly because it had cuisine from my HD’s side, which he adores. I’ve tried a couple of her recipes and all have come good. She is now my friend of FB too. After starting this blog, I wanted to ask some of my favorite bloggers for guest posts and she was one of the first that I asked for and that materialized. It just happened that Meena responded so quickly that she became first in the race. 🙂 When Hasna asked me what recipe I would prefer, I told her that even though I would be happy…

Koshari – Lentils and Rice with Tomato Sauce

Food has such long reaching consequences. I was so glad when I received a message from a Facebook follower, that she had tried the Sago Payasam, Kappa Masala and the Eggless Caramel Bread Pudding and she had enjoyed her experience. Next on her list seems to be the Rose Icecream, which she will attempt once the health of her kids are better. I do not know how much excited I was reading about the feedback. When you try to recreate what you do in the kitchen into words, it may sometimes not connect really, but when you know people had tried to make it and it has come out perfect for them, the joy has no bounds! 🙂 It feels fantastic when people appreciate it this way. I would say without doubt that it’s the kind words that I receive from all of you that keeps me going and so excited…

Egg Omelette Curry

I just cannot get over my cookbook obsession. I had promised myself I wouldn’t order anymore online as I have no space to keep my current cookbooks. I’m bathing – literally – in papers of recipes and then all the cookbooks that I had promised myself that I would not get any. Yesterday, while surfing Book Depository, I found some amazing little cookbooks for Australia Weekly, which I have seen in stores over here and cost literally a bomb – yeah, cookbooks are absolutely expensive in this part of the world! You know how many I ordered, 10 of them!!! 🙁 Now I don’t know where to go and put them in. The funniest part is that these will all come to my office address and I bet I will raise a few eyebrows out here.   Sharjah witnessed the biggest book fair ever in November last year and I…

Custard Sewiyan/ Vermicelli

I have again been playing with the gadgets!!! I’ve changed the header, changed the fonts and slightly the colors. I’ve made the blog totally white, and now I am again looking around to make my blog look a bit more better. I somehow don’t seem to be satisfied with what I have. But now, I love the header. Do you like it too, friends??? 🙂   Actually speaking, my head is buzzing with ideas… Last time, when I put up the coming soon part as “Surprise!”, Divya, who blogs at Dishing, asked me if it were a giveaway. 🙂 I’ve never got any giveaways so far, mainly because I can’t keep a track of what all I should be participating. I blog for the fun of posting what I am trying and becoming successful, as well as the level of interaction with people with similar mindsets – read it as…

Mini Sausage Rolls

Before I start today’s post, I want to thank somebody profusely. Somebody, who in my eyes, is a very seasoned blogger, who puts up meals and pictures that looks like it is from a five star home, but with all it, is very humble and simple. I had already thanked her when I received my first Leibster, but let me thank her again. Jehanne, you have been really kind. I am a small blogger, having nothing much spectacular on my blog, but she makes me feel otherwise. This lovely lady is now going to be the author of a cookbook series, and isn’t she excited! She went on to post about it on her blog, with a little mention about me, which left me short of words!!! She had names of seasoned, I mean, really seasoned bloggers, who get thousands of hits everyday and posts extra ordinary recipe, and there…

Be My Guest – Ellunda with a Twist!!!

Today is a special day for me. I will not be the one who would do the post, but a dear blogger friend I discovered through my time of surfing. I am pleased to introduce you to Meena, who blogs at Elephants and the Coconut Trees.  I barged onto her blog when she participated in the Kerala Kitchen cookout for the month of February and what I found was a beautiful blog, with mouthwatering recipes and not to say, the photographs which looks very professional. I frantically searched for a follower button, but I was disappointed not to find one. I left a comment on one of her recipes to put in the gadget so that I could follow her blog and in a weeks time,  I got an email thanking me for letting her know and that she had added the gadget. Now, going to see, I am her…

Another Leibster on the way!

I have been having a bad time as far as my cooking experiments are concerned. My baingan bartha day before yesterday flopped miserably, the cake I baked yesterday looked awesome from the top but broke while flipping and the pudding I made using Agar Agar didn’t set. 🙁 I’ve really noticed that when I am not in a mood, I shouldn’t be cooking – AT ALL, not even a simple tea. Hmmm… so today, no recipe!!! 😉 I am glad to inform you that another Leibster award has come to me from Gujarati Zaika. Thank you so much dear, for passing it onto me. Thank u dear… 🙂 I guess I will keep the 11 random things about me and the 11 questions for the next blogs that I need to nominate as same as what I had when I received my first award. But then I’ll definitely answer her questions,…

Afghani Chicken Pulao

I have just started walking from the beginning of this week. Somehow, found my lost willpower – I guess it was in hiding between my daughters. They have been making fun of me so much that I decided to myself – that’s it!!! I’ve to do something… Coming to the fact of making fun, I was wondering – if ever I would have said something about her weight to my umma, I don’t know what I would have got from her! I wouldn’t have dare spoken to her! But today’s kids are very different. Maybe because we treat them differently. We want them to be our friends, rather than our kids, so they may be getting a feeling that anything they say would go well with us. I guess that’s why my elder one keeps taunting on my weight, even though she’s also not on the right side of the…

Eggless Caramel Bread Pudding

After being on Blogger, I am trying to get a hang of Pinterest and Twitter. I am an expert in Facebook, I can do anything on that with my eyes closed!!! Yeah, kind of an addiction… 🙁 I tried Twitter sometime back and then just closed it down. Now for my blog, I am trying to learn it again. I guess I will go slow on it and learn it at my pace, whenever I have time! 🙂   The recipe for today is a simple steamed pudding, made with ingredients in your kitchen cabinet at any point of time and yummy to be true! It tastes as good as any steamed pudding would be. As soon as I got hold of the recipe, I tried it and it was a lovely looking dessert, which was really tasty as well. When you have guests coming in, this can be made…

Umma’s Scrambled Eggs

Last night was not as bad as I thought. I had to take the metro and bus to go back home and by the time I reached, I was literally dead. But then, when my elder one was browsing through her cartoon channels, there came “Finding Nemo” on Disney Channel. Nobody else was there to disturb – umma and uppa had gone for their walks, B was studying and HD was as usual busy with work. So we three cuddled up and watched the movie, with live running commentary from my little one, who is a number one chatterbox!!! 🙂 She’s just two, but speaks quite a bit and by experience, I know that in couple of years, she’s going to be a silent cat!!! Had some awesome time. I really believe that if there is a category of people who can grate on your nerves so much that you…

Mixed Vegetable Curry

Even though weekends are meant to be for relaxing, for me, it’s otherwise. I try my maximum not  to take up anything during the awaited Friday and Saturday weekend, but then somebody plans out something, and I automatically become a part of it. There goes Friday relaxation for a toss. Then Saturday will be filled with all chores you had earlier planned to be split between two days, and at the end of the day, you wish that Sunday was also part of the weekend. I never seem to get out of it somehow… So here I am, on a Sunday morning, feeling exactly like the dog character, Snoopy!!! *Read – my eyes!!!* I had a suggestion from Sini of Kitchen Magic to include more vegetarian recipes on the blog. When I was browsing through my recipe index, I did notice that there is a dearth of vegetarian recipes, meaning recipes where vegetables are…
