Maharashtrian Gavachi Kheer/ Whole Wheat Payasam

Some posts can be tinged with some sadness. Just like this one – due to lagging response, Divya has decided to call off her once-successful South North Challenge and this month happens to be the last challenge.I am sure she must have a hard time taking this decision, as this has been her baby ever since she has had her blog and I have seen some active participation, which is one of the reasons I became a part of this group. However, off late, the response has not been very enthusiastic. I would not say that I was regular with my challenges. I have already mentioned during previous SNC posts that the importance given more for sweets have kind of made me wary of participating, not because I don’t love sweets – then there would be no justice to my blog name! – but the calories in North Indian sweets…

Paneer Kathi Rolls

I do try to be a bit regular with my participation in challenges, but then, have to look at lot of matters before I take it up. Time is definitely one factor, and another one being whether the folks at home would eat it. Most of the time, I do not face much of a problem, but still I get jitters when I think of trying. When this month’s South North Challenge was declared for the Southern team, it was something I was sure would be accepted by the family. This month’s challenge is hosted by Minnie, who gave us the sumptious Paneer Kathi Rolls to make. The last challenge that she had given sometime back, which was the Kulfi Falooda bought in a lot of nostalgia and memories. Since paneer is my B’s favorite, I just went ahead and made it for dinner one night. Everybody loved it, even…

Malai Kofta – Paneer Dumplings in Rich Gravy

It is after ages I am participating in the South-vs-North (SNC) Challenge. It is not that I have not been wanting to, I really wanted to participate. But of late, most of the challenge recipes were sweets. Even though I bake quite a lot of cakes and cookies, Indian sweets really scare me from trying. The amount of ghee, sugar syrup and all the calories that go into making it gives me a mini heart attack while reading the recipe itself!!! This time, the challenge for the Southern team was a gravy, a dish I have been wanting to make for long, so how could I ignore it? When Nupur of UK Rasoi posted the Malai Kofta as the challenge, I was really excited. I prepared it the same day for dinner and relished it like anything. Even the men in the house, really loved it. Despite it being vegetarian,…

Kulfi Falooda

There is this little shop a few buildings away from where we stay, which is hidden in the midst of a lot of buildings and textile shops. All that outlet sells is Pakistani sweets and falooda. The queue of people to have their falooda keeps increasing on a daily basis. Even the quantity that they serve in a bowl has shown a decrease over the years, even thought the prices have gone up! Whatever said and done, the falooda they serve is a class apart. From the time we were small, when my D heard about the outlet from one of his friends, we have been a regular over there. He would treat us to it at least once in a month, amid to the protests of my umma. Nowadays, we don’t have it much thanks to our faster pace of life, but then when my B craves for it,…

Kesar Pista Kulfi

August is almost ending, however there seems to be no respite from the summer heat. More than the heat, it is the humidity which is really unbearable. Even thinking about going for a walk for some bout of fresh air is like a horror! You will come back drenched and literally bathing in sweat even at nights! Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks, things should ease though summer officially stays in this part of the world till mid October at least! After having made the Chana Dal Halwa as a part of the SNC – South vs North Challenge – a brainchild of Divya Pramil of You Too Can Cook, I was never able to participate in any of them that followed. A lot of factors contributed to not being able to participate in the challenges. However, this time when Shruthi of Shruthi’s Rasoi declared the challenge of the…

Chana Dal Halwa

Amn’t I excited today? I have a news to share… I had recieved an email from LiveonBlogs early last week, checking if I could give a written interview, as they were impressed by my blog. After a few communications up and down, yesterday, it appeared on their website. Here is the link to the page.   This would not have been possible without the support of the Almighty, my HD and all you kind ladies out there (and if there are any gents, no offence, please! 🙂 ). Believe me, I never thought I could go this far. When my HD read this, he just couldn’t stop smiling, because I have mentioned so much about him. I should say that his support mattered. I showed him my blog almost a month after I started it, and he started laughing. He told me, “I know you cook well now, but is…
