Complete Breakfast Smoothie

I am an avid watcher of “Food Network”. We don’t get it in our cable all the time, but on special occasions, this channel comes up and I watch it continuously for hours. In fact, that’s the only channel the girls don’t ask me to change to see their cartoons. 😉 When the channel goes off, I watch the live telecast through their website, but then time is always a constraint so I don’t do it more often.   During one of the episodes of a programme called “The Kitchen”, I happened to watch this recipe of this super smoothie. The host Jeff Mauro whipped up this smoothie and called it the “Complete Breakfast Smoothie”. It stuck in my head, thanks to the banana and coffee concoction. I didn’t recreate it in my kitchen till I started my workouts a couple of months ago. This smoothie was perfect for…

Dragon Fruit Smoothie

I pick up a dragon fruit once in a while. Not that I love the fruit, but at times when I see the pretty fruit, I feel like picking it up. A good way of eating it is with a sprinkle of salt and sugar. It really spikes up the fruit. Another way I like it is when it is made into a smoothie with coconut milk. Somehow I don’t like it with milk, the fruit literally spoils the milk! But with coconut milk, it tends to gel so well. The little seeds also give the smoothie a pretty look, just like how kiwis do.   If you like dragon fruit, then here are other recipes on the blog for you: Dragon Fruit Pudding Dragon Fruit Milk Pudding Off to this simple recipe…       Dragon Fruit Smoothie   Save Print Prep time 2 mins Cook time 1…

Orange Mango Juice

With the summers really peaking bad, we drink a lot of fluids from Iftar time. I always make sure I make a juice, especially since the girls love some of it at times. My usual repeats are rose milk and dates lassi, since they are easy to put together and filling too.   These days, there are a lot of oranges and mangoes in the market, so obviously this is another choice. A very simple juice combining the goodness of mangoes and oranges, this is very refreshing when served really cold on a hot day. I usually squeeze out the juice off the oranges and then place them in the freezer so that they are almost hardening up. I then blitz them up with the mango, so you get a feel of a slushy. 🙂 Do try this combination if you haven’t yet!   PST: Not much of writing…

Sago Rose Milk

Sometimes I peek back and wonder, where did the month go? We are almost finishing the second ten days of Ramadan and moving towards the last ten days of the month, considered to be the best days of the year itself. Somehow days are flying in full speed, just like water slipping through the fingers. It makes me feel very uneasy, making me think if I am taking full advantage of these blessed days. May Allah accept our little deeds done by the best of our capacities… Aameen…   Meanwhile, I will leave you with this delicious drink, which I had make when I saw this post. I love anything with sago, though I don’t cook very frequently with it, since it can be very tricky. This drink is basically an adapted sago payasam, cooled and sweetened with rose syrup, but unlike payasam which is usually served warm, this…

Gothambu Kaachiyathu/ Ooral Kaachiyathu ~ Malabar Wheat Drink | “Joy from Fasting to Feasting X”

Some posts come with a tinge of sadness. I remember when I was just months into my blogging journey. A message popped up on my FB messenger from Lubna, asking me to do a guest post for her Ramadan series, which she so lovingly calls “Joy from Fasting to Feasting”. Being a newbie, that message from a seasoned blogger gave me goosebumps. I really didn’t know how to react but finally I got back to my senses, and I said a “yes”. Luck was not in my favor and I was not able to give her a proper post, but she assured me that the post had done really well.   After that, I have been a regular fixture at her space during all the Ramadans. I have excitedly worked on each post, and Alhamdulillah, she has always loved it. So this time, I was really waiting for her…

Carrot Lassi ~ Carrot Yogurt Drink

We had a long weekend this time due to the holiday of Israwal Miraaj being pre-poned. We have guests staying at our house so we took the opportunity to go around Abu Dhabi and showing them around. Whoever goes to Abu Dhabi, a visit to the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Mosque is a must, so that was our last stop before returning back home. I had gone there early February with my parents on a very chilled, blowing day. I had forgotten my watch at the ablution area and remembered about it only halfway on our drive back. By then, I had no way to go back to get it. I normally keep my watch in my bag during wudu, but this time, I don’t know what had happened. This time, I took a chance and asked the security regarding the watch. My habit of taking clicks helped me trace…

Vegan Strawberry Mango Smoothie

It is the end of the month and it is time for the Shhh Cooking Secretly Challenge of the month. With the summers looming in this part of the world and back home already under a heat spell, it wasn’t difficult finalizing the theme for the month. The theme for the month is “Summer Coolers” and my partner for this month is Shailaja, whom I am dealing for the first time and am glad to be partnered with. 🙂   She gave me mango and ice cream as my secret ingredients. Mango is coming into season and who doesn’t get excited about this delicious fruit! I am not very fond of ice creams in my smoothies or drinks, so decided to only utilize mango for this challenge. What I did was pair it up with another seasonal fruit that are available now in the market, which is strawberries. This…

Ustad Hotel Sulaimaani ~ Spiced Black Tea

Seriously speaking, I was in no plans to do any post today. I had already scheduled the post for tomorrow, InShaAllah and was planning to go ahead with it. But the climate today… A change from what it was over the last few days! We have had hot days but cozy nights and the fluctuation is wrecking havoc on everybody’s health, it looks. It has been on and off cloudy with hardly any rains. So yesterday evening, when I saw the thick clouds and the drizzle, I wasn’t expecting it to shower heavily. But He had other plans.   It rained heavily late night messing up all around the building.  My car is stuck in between a little pond. If I have to take it out, I have to push through it. On top, I woke up with a sprained neck, which isn’t really helpful. I had to take…

Vegan Papaya Blueberry Smoothie

Even though I am very well away from my vegan diet, at times, I do go back to them when I feel really bloated. 😀 I am of the belief that our body needs a little of everything to survive and pull on, so you will never see advocating one type of eating habit. Yet, when we go a bit overboard with eating, a raw vegan diet for a few days does really calm your system down. It is only based on my experience and not necessarily it works for everybody. We have to see how each of our bodies react and eat accordingly. I may brag about it but always end up being the last person to do it, though off late I am trying to really watch out what I am eating.   Sharing with you today, a delicious vegan smoothie, that is one of my favorites…

Kiwi Green Grape Juice

After the Coriander Chutney, here is the second one in line. A totally green juice, filled with fruits and the goodness of coconut water – that is how I would call this. Kiwi and green grapes are normally not a combination that you would see juiced together. So I combined it more to see how it would fare. I am also not a fan of coconut water – yeah, something surprising considering I love anything with coconut, but don’t seem to like the water! All in all, I must say it was a very refreshing drink. The chia seeds though optional, adds an extra kick to the whole drink. I feel blessed to stay in a country like UAE, where you get fruits of various kinds all throughout the year coming from various countries. Alhamdulillah, we can survive on a bowl of fruits if I feel lazy to cook…

Adeni Chai ~ Yemeni Milk Tea

Tea is my favorite beverage, if made properly. An improper tea peeves me off. I guess it runs in the family. It’s with my parents, it’s with HD as well. We prefer having tea from street side restaurants rather than homes most of the time, since many just can’t make a proper cup of tea. 🙁 I feel really bad to say this, but it is from experience. There are very rare times when I have really liked the tea from somebody’s house. I feel people make coffee better, since it is more easier to do so I always ask for it. Hehe…   Like tea? Then here are some that are already on the blog – not the sulamani types! 😉 My way of making chai Burma Chai – for people who love tea with just milk! Piyush ~ Thick Yogurt/ Shrikand Lassi

I normally don’t like to admit that I am tired. Actually speaking, I AM tired. Sleep is totally a limited business these days. With parents around, the kids are taking full advantage of the fact that I won’t be able to yell at them as much as I would when they aren’t there. Even though umma tells me to go off to sleep, I feel uncomfortable if the kids are not around or the thought is in my mind that they haven’t slept. No wonder they say that it is all in your mind. If I really want to sleep, I can just go off. On top of that, even though it is not even cold – I can’t believe we are almost at the end of January and winter is still playing peek-a-boo! 🙁 – it is so nice to sleep. So I just don’t feel like waking…

Naaranga Sulaimaani ~ Lime Black Tea

A sulaimaani is just that – a dreamy concoction. At any point of time, I prefer my paal chaaya, but at times I do get a bit fed up of it and get myself a small glass of sulaimaani. Normally, I make it this way with a dash of cardamom, but at times when I need a little kick, or when the meal has been too heavy, then a black tea with a nice squeeze of lime does the trick. While doing this post, I remembered this one that Sona (I wish she revives her blog for which I did a guest post sometime back…) had shared on her timeline…     I like this quote, though I have no clue how much I will stick to this. Improving ourselves is an ongoing process but I have never felt like giving it time and concentrating on it. I don’t know if it…

Vegan Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

After the Mint Hot Chocolate and the Biscoff White Hot Chocolate, here comes the third one!   Since I have gone through the difficulties of having some of my favorite food during the vegan days, I had found ways to go about it. I still like to look back and take around the lessons and still crave for good vegetarian food rather than non-veg after that little phase in my life! 😀 Something I used to crave so much for was hot chocolate and somehow I was really not liking too much dark chocolate. On top, I am really not a fan of hot chocolate with cocoa powder, but then you need to adjust as per your circumstances, right? 🙂 That is when this hot chocolate was born.   Since I used to keep making almond milk, in order to finish them soon, I used to end up making…

Biscoff White Hot Chocolate

After the minty hot chocolate, here’s the second one. Biscoff White Hot Chocolate is simply a white hot chocolate spiked up with some Biscoff! How does that sound? I got the idea during my Google searches and was really smitten by the idea. The Biscoff goes amazingly well with the white chocolate, in fact I believe this combination would be much better than the combination of milk chocolate with Biscoff. I have already posted a white hot chocolate before on the blog, which also had a spike of cinnamon. Similar to that one, this one also has a sprinkle of cinnamon powder at the top and it gives a very homely feeling to the drink. Off to the recipe… and I hope you will keep waiting for what is going to appear tomorrow as the third recipe… 🙂       Biscoff White Hot Chocolate   Save Print Prep…
