Orange Mango Juice

With the summers really peaking bad, we drink a lot of fluids from Iftar time. I always make sure I make a juice, especially since the girls love some of it at times. My usual repeats are rose milk and dates lassi, since they are easy to put together and filling too.   These days, there are a lot of oranges and mangoes in the market, so obviously this is another choice. A very simple juice combining the goodness of mangoes and oranges, this is very refreshing when served really cold on a hot day. I usually squeeze out the juice off the oranges and then place them in the freezer so that they are almost hardening up. I then blitz them up with the mango, so you get a feel of a slushy. 🙂 Do try this combination if you haven’t yet!   PST: Not much of writing…

Sago Rose Milk

Sometimes I peek back and wonder, where did the month go? We are almost finishing the second ten days of Ramadan and moving towards the last ten days of the month, considered to be the best days of the year itself. Somehow days are flying in full speed, just like water slipping through the fingers. It makes me feel very uneasy, making me think if I am taking full advantage of these blessed days. May Allah accept our little deeds done by the best of our capacities… Aameen…   Meanwhile, I will leave you with this delicious drink, which I had make when I saw this post. I love anything with sago, though I don’t cook very frequently with it, since it can be very tricky. This drink is basically an adapted sago payasam, cooled and sweetened with rose syrup, but unlike payasam which is usually served warm, this…

Carrot Lassi ~ Carrot Yogurt Drink

We had a long weekend this time due to the holiday of Israwal Miraaj being pre-poned. We have guests staying at our house so we took the opportunity to go around Abu Dhabi and showing them around. Whoever goes to Abu Dhabi, a visit to the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Mosque is a must, so that was our last stop before returning back home. I had gone there early February with my parents on a very chilled, blowing day. I had forgotten my watch at the ablution area and remembered about it only halfway on our drive back. By then, I had no way to go back to get it. I normally keep my watch in my bag during wudu, but this time, I don’t know what had happened. This time, I took a chance and asked the security regarding the watch. My habit of taking clicks helped me trace…

Vegan Strawberry Mango Smoothie

It is the end of the month and it is time for the Shhh Cooking Secretly Challenge of the month. With the summers looming in this part of the world and back home already under a heat spell, it wasn’t difficult finalizing the theme for the month. The theme for the month is “Summer Coolers” and my partner for this month is Shailaja, whom I am dealing for the first time and am glad to be partnered with. 🙂   She gave me mango and ice cream as my secret ingredients. Mango is coming into season and who doesn’t get excited about this delicious fruit! I am not very fond of ice creams in my smoothies or drinks, so decided to only utilize mango for this challenge. What I did was pair it up with another seasonal fruit that are available now in the market, which is strawberries. This…

Vegan Papaya Blueberry Smoothie

Even though I am very well away from my vegan diet, at times, I do go back to them when I feel really bloated. 😀 I am of the belief that our body needs a little of everything to survive and pull on, so you will never see advocating one type of eating habit. Yet, when we go a bit overboard with eating, a raw vegan diet for a few days does really calm your system down. It is only based on my experience and not necessarily it works for everybody. We have to see how each of our bodies react and eat accordingly. I may brag about it but always end up being the last person to do it, though off late I am trying to really watch out what I am eating.   Sharing with you today, a delicious vegan smoothie, that is one of my favorites…

Kiwi Green Grape Juice

After the Coriander Chutney, here is the second one in line. A totally green juice, filled with fruits and the goodness of coconut water – that is how I would call this. Kiwi and green grapes are normally not a combination that you would see juiced together. So I combined it more to see how it would fare. I am also not a fan of coconut water – yeah, something surprising considering I love anything with coconut, but don’t seem to like the water! All in all, I must say it was a very refreshing drink. The chia seeds though optional, adds an extra kick to the whole drink. I feel blessed to stay in a country like UAE, where you get fruits of various kinds all throughout the year coming from various countries. Alhamdulillah, we can survive on a bowl of fruits if I feel lazy to cook…

Piyush ~ Thick Yogurt/ Shrikand Lassi

I normally don’t like to admit that I am tired. Actually speaking, I AM tired. Sleep is totally a limited business these days. With parents around, the kids are taking full advantage of the fact that I won’t be able to yell at them as much as I would when they aren’t there. Even though umma tells me to go off to sleep, I feel uncomfortable if the kids are not around or the thought is in my mind that they haven’t slept. No wonder they say that it is all in your mind. If I really want to sleep, I can just go off. On top of that, even though it is not even cold – I can’t believe we are almost at the end of January and winter is still playing peek-a-boo! 🙁 – it is so nice to sleep. So I just don’t feel like waking…

Blueberry Lassi

I was wondering to myself… it’s been ages since I shared any slides that have influenced me. Here is one that I discovered in my archive while browsing through: I don’t know if I have shared this before but sharing it again… Patience is beautiful, in fact the waiting period after the whole turmoil gives way to mostly a lovely phase in our life. Life is never the same, it always comes up to a better point in life where we look back and tell ourselves, why did I ever go through all that pain? 🙂 It is actually a mystery of life, that nobody will ever be able to explain to you. Allah has said that He will test us in various ways, so I always keep praying to Him to give me patience to handle whatever situation may arise. May Allah bless all of us with patience…

Apple Peanut Butter Milkshake

Sometimes I wonder why as a blogger, I need to be in pressure to start my posts with introductions. Sometimes, my mind is blank but I still want to go ahead and do a post since I feel very uneasy if I don’t attend to my blog regularly. I am so used to doing it now, that keeping it empty for too long a time is not in my mind at the moment. It doesn’t mean that I will be able to keep this pace till my blogging passion lasts. It just means that when I have the opportunity to continue with it, I would like to keep going on with it with His Grace. Life is never meant to be in the same pace all the time. Alhamdulillah, even with the ups and downs life gave me, I was able to keep blogging. Maybe I must rephrase it…

Persimmon Pistachio Lassi

My favorite fruit is back in season! But I always wonder why I have so much difficulty finding it in the markets here. 🙁 Usually HD’s staff goes to the main fruit and vegetable market to get stuff but despite explaining it to them, they were not able to trace this fruit. A couple of weeks back, I found it in one hypermarket which is quite far away from home. I had to go there for checking something, but didn’t find it, but that disappointment was offset when I found a big box of persimmons staring at me while simply loitering in the supermarket. Hehe… I must admit that I ate almost the whole box all by myself. HD must have eaten just one and B didn’t even bother to eat it, even though he likes this fruit. Two got pulsed into this delicious lassi as well. All you…

Chickoo/ Sapota Milkshake

Of late, I have taken a little change from my normal routine. Everyday, I used to slave an hour and a half in the morning in some pathetic traffic to get to office and a little over an hour in the evening to get back home. For a couple of weeks, I was without a vehicle to commute and my colleague introduced me to the joy of metro riding. Even though I knew it was convenient, I always thought it was crowded and liked to excuse myself from it for so many unjustifiable reasons. But once I started using it, it made me realise how much stress it takes away from me. The ride is exactly 30 minutes to the nearest station to my office, which is followed by a 5-8 minute walk. With the climate getting better, I started using it and now even though I have a…

Rose Lemonade

I guess I will use this post as a more of a picture intensive post, than of words. 😉 A couple of posts ago, I mentioned regarding our trip to a place called Koorachundu. This place is situated in Calicut District and was around an hour drive from HD’s place. I know it’s been two months now but I am still suffering from the hangover. 😕   When we were on vacation, we had planned to take a week to go visiting Andaman Islands, however all the schedules were turned upside down and we had to shelve that plan. Wanting to escape from the routine of having to visit relatives and eat loads of food, we finally decided to move out with the help of his brother, to a place where it would be just nature and us. From all the days we were there, the day we decided…

Kulukki Sarbath ~ Malabar Basil Limeade

The climate maybe getting better over here, but sometimes it is really hot especially in the afternoons, that you still need something to cool you down instantly. A tall glass of Kulukki Sarbath always comes handy in this case. Kulukki Sarbath is nothing but a basil seed limeade which is so common in Kerala. Literally, it means “shaken drink”. To read a bit of its history, you can hop onto this link. Though it seems to have originated in Calicut, it has gained more popularity in Kochi. You can find these quite a lot on the streets back home but umma would never allow us to have them since you read all sorts of stories about what kind of water is used – better not dwell around it! With this legendary simple drink taking all sorts of variations now, I resort to making the basic simple edition of lime…

Sweet Melon Milkshake

Haven’t shared any quotes for so long… Here is one for today, which is really beautiful… I am sure all of you would appreciate reading through it… 🙂     Sweet melon, or “shamaam” as it is called here, is a fruit that the men in the house love. HD always makes it a point to bring it when he is sent for grocery and B also tends to bring one whenever he gets a chance. But somehow, the kids nor I are a fan of it. Azza eats it once in a while, but not Rasha. I prefer more in the form of this milkshake, so each time they bring it, I blitz up a part for myself. Normally I add milk in most of my milkshakes, but for shamaam, I prefer adding heaps of milk powder, since it gives a nice flavor and completely masks the fruit…

Sweet Punjabi Lassi

Having come after vacation, the feeling of loneliness is on a high. Life in a metro city is always fast paced. People are all running behind a lot of things in their lives – important or not, is not the matter. Anywhere you look, everybody is busy. From stay-at-home mothers to businessmen… Nobody has time. Our connections are all becoming virtual, with hardly anytime for personal interaction. Even back home, life is moving towards the same style in cities, however the village sides are still catching up on it and I sincerely hope they really don’t, but considering that mobile networks are becoming better, it will be a case in the near future. The feeling of having a human to fall on when you need support is precious, which technology cannot replace. No wonder why stress and anxiety related disorders are on a high now…   By the way,…
