Be My Guest – Easy Chocolate Cinnamon Pots

Just as I thought I was not going to have any guest posts for this month and had settled down into that thought, I got an email from Supriya. I had never heard about her blog before, so her email did pique my interest. That got me going to her interesting blog called “Quiche and Tell“. The name of the blog is in itself interesting! That reminds me that I have been wanting to make quiche for long. I have tried making them a couple of times but they have just failed me. Not they didn’t taste right, but definitely not blogworthy. 😀 OK, so coming back to Supriya’s blog, I kept browsing and totally loved the collection of recipes that she had on her blog. Her latest cheesecake post is definitely something to die for!   So we had a little chit chat over the mails up and down…

Marbled Classic Banana Bread

From the beginning of this year, life has been hectic. With parents around, the kids act weird. That’s how all grandchildren are supposed to be with grandparents around, right? I sometimes feel like a screaming zombie, who keeps making noise for nobody to listen. It is an absolutely frustrating feeling. 😕 But there is nothing much we can do. My parents leave in another two weeks and already we are feeling a tinge of sadness due to this. The girls are already eating our head to send them off for their summer vacation on their own. Being working doesn’t help since I have hardly a month off on my hand and their vacation is nothing less than two months, which is a lot of time. Each vacation, they complain of getting bored and how their friends are spending the whole vacation back home. I am fine with the idea…

Chocolate Hot Fudge Pudding Cake

Ever since this year has started, there has been an awful level of lethargy associated with the blog. I am not sure why is that so. I have heard many bloggers tell me that after a particular stage, we all face a lack of interest in the proceedings – whether small or large. I am just looking at a small example. I still have the 2014 recipes to be properly done into recipe cards. There are more than 200 posts, and I am not having any motivation to do it. I try to recall how I did it for the other posts, but I am not able to get the hang of it. Then I tell myself, no, I am not going to stress myself over it. 🙂   Just taking back from completing four years of blogging, today’s post happens to be the post #1000 on “The BST”….

Wholewheat Date Cocoa Muffins

Time of the month for posting the challenge for the Muslim Food Bloggers! Last month, if you remember, we had started a new challenge among a small group of bloggers, and my first post was the Ma’amoul that I tried from the blog that was assigned for that month. This month, the challenge was to cook with a particular ingredient and the ingredient that was provided to our team of bloggers was “DATES”.   We all know how important dates is to a Muslim. There are so many mention of this humble fruit in the Qur’an and Hadith, so much that dates are considered one of the fruits of paradise. Dates are the best substance to open your fast with. Dates was what, when our revered Maryam (AS) suffered from birth pangs while carrying Isa (AS), she was offered to ease her pain. “Shake the trunk of the palm toward…

Iced Chocolate Mousse

A few weeks ago, I had posted a live video of Rasha trying to help me with this mousse on my personal FB timeline. From then on, I received a few requests for the recipe that she tried, or she started to try and then left in the middle, I must say! 😉 I was not intending to do this recipe any earlier on the blog, but then, I thought, since the video had gone live, why don’t I use the opportunity of making this post appear earlier, in the form of a book review? 🙂   Today’s book for review is “Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook 200 Delicious Desserts”, written by Sara Lewis, printed by Octopus Books, UK. This book is a part of a collection of books with 2oo recipes. This was one of the books that HD picked up for me from this year’s Sharjah Book Fair…

Vegan Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

After the Mint Hot Chocolate and the Biscoff White Hot Chocolate, here comes the third one!   Since I have gone through the difficulties of having some of my favorite food during the vegan days, I had found ways to go about it. I still like to look back and take around the lessons and still crave for good vegetarian food rather than non-veg after that little phase in my life! 😀 Something I used to crave so much for was hot chocolate and somehow I was really not liking too much dark chocolate. On top, I am really not a fan of hot chocolate with cocoa powder, but then you need to adjust as per your circumstances, right? 🙂 That is when this hot chocolate was born.   Since I used to keep making almond milk, in order to finish them soon, I used to end up making…

Biscoff White Hot Chocolate

After the minty hot chocolate, here’s the second one. Biscoff White Hot Chocolate is simply a white hot chocolate spiked up with some Biscoff! How does that sound? I got the idea during my Google searches and was really smitten by the idea. The Biscoff goes amazingly well with the white chocolate, in fact I believe this combination would be much better than the combination of milk chocolate with Biscoff. I have already posted a white hot chocolate before on the blog, which also had a spike of cinnamon. Similar to that one, this one also has a sprinkle of cinnamon powder at the top and it gives a very homely feeling to the drink. Off to the recipe… and I hope you will keep waiting for what is going to appear tomorrow as the third recipe… 🙂       Biscoff White Hot Chocolate   Save Print Prep…

Mint Hot Chocolate

I guess I mentioned it last month, but mentioning it again today… InShaAllah, in 2017 the 3 back-to-back will be done every second month than every month, so that it will make it easy for me to work around a theme and follow it too. Till now I was able to do it without much hassle, but since I don’t want to put a lot of pressure on myself, I am letting it go a bit loose. 😀 But don’t worry, we are at the end of this year and I do have a 3B2B this time, which is going to amaze you… Ready? OK, then, read on…   I guess looking at the picture and the title of today’s post, you maybe thinking that I am featuring warm drinks. Yes, it is winters, there are some cold winds, all you need is some blanket all over you and…

Microwave Bread Pudding

Alhamdulillah, so far I have been having a good time organizing the 3 back-to-back posts. I am glad I have received some very good responses for the series as well. Since from last month, I have started the book review series too, I am planning to space out my series from the new year, InShaAllah. I may move the 3 back-to-back to becoming a bi-monthly series and making the book review a monthly one so that my books move in the shelves and don’t rot! 😉 Let’s see how it goes…  I would love to keep my blogging journey as stress free as possible, so I have to make sure that I don’t fall into too many plans at the moment! 🙂   OK, so what do we have in store for this month? I guess when you saw the title of today’s post, you must have got a…

Be My Guest – Vegan Pumpkin Pie in Chocolate Crust

Last month, after a break, I kick-started the Be My Guest series with Famidha. But I have already mentioned that I may not go on every month doing a post. Alhamdulillah, I am glad this month I have a blogger too as my guest. A blogger, who is on my list of favorites in food blogging. I mean, go through her blog. The amount of recipes she posts, especially as a part of the Blogging Marathon, is amazing. Each post of her is a delight – whether it is the recipe or the shots. There is not even a post where her clicks are lacking – they are one better than the other or competing against each other. I really admire the way that she keeps up with the standard of her posts. Also, her blog is perfect fodder for a sweet tooth like me to keep looking at it…

Date Cashewnut Brownies

Like many, baking is therapeutic to me, but only if it would not make me feel so off with my weight! 😀 I have been on quite a low off late, especially since I have come back from vacation. I have been really struggling to get back into schedule. Either time is moving too fast or I have become slow – it is one of them. Thanks to this “lack” of time, the first thing that got docked off my list was baking. Not because I don’t enjoy it, I love the feeling of baking a lot and I miss doing it. But at times,  I struggle at home to finish my bakes. Most of the time, it is me who is finishing it. If it is chocolate, Rasha is fine but otherwise she won’t touch it. Azza is really unpredictable – most of the time she acts as…

Chocolate Biscuit Pudding

There are some desserts that are so frequently made when we were young. As days go by or years move on, they get forgotten. That is how I would look at the good old biscuit pudding. Thanks to the umpteen variety of ingredients available in the market, we experiment with various flavors and varieties and try not to look at the old style dishes, that graced our tables so effortlessly and we eagerly waited for them. Now, I feel that we are under pressure to make something new all the time. At home, even if I want to go back to some old favorites, the kids feel that I am taking an easy way out! 😕 It is actually very irritating at times… But if there is a dessert they and HD loves if given anytime, then it is this simple biscuit pudding! I had promised I would share…

Vegan Chocolate Muhallabiah

Muhallabiah is a family favorite dessert. It is a breeze to make. A milk based dessert, thickened with corn starch and subtly flavored with two essences that are such a huge part of Arab dessert – rose water and orange blossom water. Normally, I would always have only with rose water, but commercial version available is mostly flavored with orange blossom water. Now I use both in my desserts and love their combined taste. I first enjoy the aroma and then the taste. 😉 I already have the traditional version on the blog. I would prefer to call this dessert “the Arab Pannacotta”! 😉   Normally during Ramadan, you find boxes of Muhallabiah mixes at good prices, but I always wonder why we need to use them when all that goes into making it are very basic ingredients!  B gets tempted to buy the offer pack and every time…

Vegan Wheatgerm Brookies

I have this bad habit of picking up stuff I may or may not use and then panic about what to do to finish them off! 😀 I call it the con of going grocery shopping alone. If HD would come along, I wouldn’t pick up anything extra, forget about unknown products. I am glad to have discovered milled flax and chia among a few of them, and the next finding was wheat germ. What is wheat germ? It is said to be the sprouted part of a wheat kernel, that gets separated in the milling process. It is in fact the most healthy part of the wheat, loaded with vitamins, proteins and minerals, but unfortunately gets left out during the making of wheat flour. The proportion of wheat germ is only 2.5% of a kernel of wheat, so it is a very miniscule portion. To read the health…

Vegan Wholewheat Oats Chocolate Loaf

We are now on the last leg of this holy month. I have already mentioned in a lot of detail in my earlier posts on the blog, which you can read here. This month is believed to be the month when the Qur’an was sent down to the earth, and the last ten days of Ramadan witnesses a night that is better than a 1000 months, so Muslims stay vigil at night praying to the Almighty from His bounties. Unfortunately, I have noticed that many of us take to finishing off or even starting our Eid shopping during these precious nights, that shouldn’t be wasted at any cost. It becomes imperative on us to educate our brethren the importance of these days and how we must limit our other activities during this time. May He give us the strength and faith to make us among those who see the…
