Chocolate Honey Granola

The tenth of the month, it is, and time for the Muslim Food Blogger Challenge! This month, the theme chosen was “Cooking with Honey”. We all know what honey is and how, just like coconut oil, it has gone from being super-food to notorious food back to “good food”. Did you know there is a chapter in the Quran called as “An-Nahl” (Chapter 16)?

Your Lord revealed to the bees: “Build dwellings in the mountains and the trees, and also in the structures which men erect. Then eat from every kind of fruit and travel the paths of your Lord, which have been made easy for you to follow.” From inside them comes a drink of varying colours, containing healing for mankind. There is certainly a Sign in that for people who reflect. (Surah An-Nahl:69)

While reading through, I found some very interesting articles about the mention of honeybees and honey in the Qur’an. You can read them through here and here as well.

I love making my own granola. Somehow, the taste of the boxed ones on the shelf just do not appeal to me. I started loving granola only when I started making it on my own. I don’t make them often, but when I really crave for it, I make it and enjoy it till it is done. Even Azza loves to munch on them during the evenings. Homemade granola is far healthier since you know what is going into your oats before toasting and you can just make enough. What more, do all your twists and tweaks to a recipe, just the way you would want it.  I already have on the blog a basic version and a cookie batter variation, which is vegan, and now this one, which had to be chocolate!

I somehow love sweetening my dishes with honey or date syrup instead of white sugar, just to make myself feel good about it. 😀 This is what I did here too. My recipe is an amalgamation of a lot of googled recipes and how much I loved it, I better not explain. I bought half of it and kept it in the office and had it for breakfast till it finished. The remaining half I enjoyed it as an after-work treat and with Azza also joining in to munch on and off. Rasha didn’t like it because of the slight salty tinge that the sea salt gave the granola but for me, the addition actually cut through the sweetness and gave it a lovely flavor. So I wouldn’t recommend skipping the sea salt but if you think like Rasha, then you may! 😉

I don’t think I have had so many clicks in one post! 😀 I had a tough time selecting so decided to keep all that I felt were good. Clicking the above shot was fun. I asked Rasha to pour in the milk slowly into the bowl, but she couldn’t help it and she kept glugging it in! I just took one shot and I am thankful that it did turn out to be good. Do you know the reason why she wanted to finish it off soon? Just because her favorite cartoon was running in the hall and she wouldn’t want to miss a single second of it. 😕 Otherwise, she is really keen on wanting to help me out with shots, but when I needed her, this was the situation! Kids, I say! 😀 Leaving you with one more last picture before moving on to the recipe…
