Chocolate Peanut Butter Mug Cake

Last month, I decided to give the book review segment a miss as the last Saturday coincided with the starting of Ramadan. We are almost ending Ramadan now, and looking forward to Eid – which basically means the morning prayers, the get-togethers, the family meetings and lots of good food. 🙂 While we look forward to it, I thought let me leave you all with the review for this month, while InShaAllah, will come back with more recipes after our little break.

We all love small treats once in a while, don’t we? Especially when we crave for a cake, but don’t want to make a whole cake or share it with anybody else, then we do prefer going for mug cakes. They are really quick to make, satiate your cravings without tempting you to go for more again, which isn’t the case if you make a whole cake or even muffins. There are a few mug cakes on the blog already, which you can browse through in the microwave recipes section, if you are keen on trying some varieties. But what if I tell you that I landed up on a book that is solely dedicated to mug cakes? Yes, today, being the last Saturday of the month, let’s move into the review of this cute little book…

I was trying to figure out from where I got this book and found out that I had bought it through Book Depository somewhere in July 2015 – I traced the date on my email! 😉 I was not sure when I ordered it whether I was taking the correct decision but when the book arrived in my hand, I totally loved it. The book is authored by Mima Sinclair and published by Kyle Books, London in 2014. The cover is hardcover and has amazingly sturdy pages inside. What I love about this book is how incredibly colorful it is. There is a picture for almost all recipes and that too really colorful. Apart from the normal classics, it also covers treats like black forest cake, lamington, red velvets and even lava cake.

The mug cakes in the book are all butter and egg versions. There is only one gluten free and egg free recipe each of simple mug cake. I guess that’s with almost all baking related cookbooks. Apart from that, I don’t see much of a con with the book. It is eye candy that you would want to flip through it again and again, and end up getting tempted to make a mug cake really soon! 😀 Just giving a peak into how the pictures in the book looks like…

This isn’t my first trial from the book. I have previously made the Microwave Cheesecake from this book. This happened to be my second trial, or is it really? I don’t remember… 😉 Chocolate and peanut butter is definitely one of the matches made in “food heaven” so I had no doubt in my mind when I set to trying this mug cake. I was really not disappointed. It was a really chocolaty cake with a nice peanut butter crunch. The book had a frosting recipe too, which I decided to skip and topped it with just some peanuts. The girls and I shared up the mug, even though I wished I should have made one more. 😀 These days, I believe in enjoying in small portions and being content, especially when it comes to sweets! 😉 Off to this recipe…

  5. This is a simple one. I have tried mug cake just once – it turned out too eggy! Hence I never gave it a try again – may be I should try with a small or medium egg. Book marking this recipe:)

For mug cakes, the best is to use small eggs, large egg would definitely make it too eggy… Thank you so much Ria… 🙂
