Happened to read this quote somewhere during my casual browsing: “Nothing much teaches us about the preciousness of the Creator as much as when we learn the emptiness of everything else.” There are times when I try not to ponder over that little part of mine that I have put to rest. How much ever fulfilled our life maybe, there is always a little emptiness. There is always a feeling of incompleteness, there is always a thought of something missing… That little space will continue to haunt us unless and until we teach ourselves to fit it with dependence on the Almighty. A belief in destiny and a faith in His Power will only help to lighten the feeling, that can get to gnawing us if we don’t learn to control it. Alhamdulillah, at times while thinking about the past, I can feel how much I have grown off from my internal struggles and then you end up thanking Him for them, since they have made you a better version of yourself in some way or the other. 🙂

Coming to the recipe for today… When I see these clicks, I feel Ramadan is still with me. 🙂 Apart from the mango juice, this mixed berry smoothie made its appearance on our Iftar tables a few times. This Ramadan, all types of berries were in plenty and at a good rate in most of the supermarkets. Even though initially the kids would frown, but one thing I loved about this smoothie is as you allow it to sit for sometime, the tartness of the berries mellows down and gives way to a very lovely sweetness. I used to blitz it and leave it in the fridge for half an hour, so that the flavors intermingle and the deliciousness really comes out. Whenever you get a bunch of mixed berries, do give it a try. I am sure you will love it too, just like we did… 🙂

Mixed Berry Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 10 strawberries chopped
  • 10 raspberries
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 2 tbsp raw sugar
  • 1 tbsp flax seeds

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

For the vegan option, replace the yogurt + milk with equivalent quantity of almond milk.
