Moroccan Mint Tea

Hitting towards the end of the year – and doesn’t it haunt us? 2015 has been a super fast year, in all sense of the word. As far the blog is concerned, it has been a fair year. That includes a makeover and a migration, which seems to have affected my blog slightly, nevertheless I am loving the change that I so badly wanted for the blog and it happened this year, Alhamdulillah. Apart from that, it has been a calm and quite year as far as the stats on the blog are concerned, but I have been able to post regularly, except in August when I had gone on vacation. I would love to try and post regularly in the coming year as well, InShaAllah. With the amount of drafts just growing, I feel I would need to hasten up my posting, though actually speaking the volume of posts I am already doing is so far so good. I guess I just keep going as much as I can InShaAllah…

Taking into account, it’s winters here, I thought why not go for three back-to-back hot drinks. All that I crave is for something hot whenever I am at home. For the full list of hot drinks, you can refer here. Today, as the first one, I am sharing an interesting variation of your normal green tea. In Morocco, their green tea is more about hospitality, tradition and friendship. This drink is served throughout the day for their guests. Nowadays, in the market, we get readily made Moroccan Mint teabags, which just need to be dipped into hot water. That doesn’t mean you don’t make it at home with whatever you have! Originally, spearmint was used for flavoring but now mint is a oft-used substitue. Off to the recipe…

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cardamoms bruised (optional but recommended)
  • 7-8 mint leaves
  • 1 green tea bag pure green tea
  • 1 tsp honey for sweetening

Instructions

  • Boil water in a saucepan with cardamom and mint leaves till it comes to a rolling boil.
  • Put the tea bag into the serving glass and strain the hot water over it. Allow to seep till it reaches desired strength.
  • Sweeten with honey and enjoy it hot!

Notes

I like my green tea really mild. You can make it strong by seeping it longer, but I don't like the sour taste that comes then. 🙂
